What to check before you buy
Washable covers
In a setting with twenty children a day, this matters more than anything else on the list. Covers that unzip and go in the machine mean you can keep equipment clean without replacing it. Fixed covers that can only be wiped will look tired within a year.
Floor space and storage
Measure the space you can commit permanently, and the space you have when the room is set up for lunch. Modular foam sets pack down and stack against a wall, which is why they suit rooms that change use through the day.
Age range
Baby room, toddler room and pre-school need different heights. A step and slide that suits a confident three year old is too much for a room of one year olds - and too dull for reception.
Weight and portability
