Soft play gets a lot of love: crawling, climbing, snacks, the odd nappy leak. The good news is that quality foam soft play is easy to keep clean if you know what each part needs. This guide covers covers, foam, ball pits and a simple routine.
Always check the care label on your product first. These are general tips.
1. Zip-off fabric covers
Most of our sets, including the castle block sets and footbridge sets, have zip-off covers that can go in the washing machine.
- Close the zip before washing to protect the teeth and the fabric.
- Use a gentle, cool wash with a mild, non-bio detergent.
- Skip the tumble dryer. Air dry flat or over a rail so covers keep their shape.
- Refit while slightly damp if covers feel snug; fabric eases back on more easily.
2. Bouclé and corduroy
Textured fabrics hide everyday marks well, but they catch crumbs.
- Vacuum weekly with an upholstery brush.
- Blot spills straight away with a clean cloth. Don't rub, which pushes stains deeper.
- Spot clean with a little mild soap and water before resorting to a full wash.
Products like the Bouclé Bean Rocker and Corduroy Furniture Set stay looking new with this routine.
3. Eco leather
Eco leather is the easiest of all.
- Wipe with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap.
- Dry with a soft towel afterwards.
- Avoid harsh solvents and bleach, which can dull or crack the surface.

That's why our Square Eco Leather Ball Pit and Quilted Eco Leather Furniture are so popular with nurseries.
4. Ball pit balls
- Small batches: wash in a sink or bath with warm soapy water, rinse and air dry on a towel.
- Large batches: a duvet cover or laundry bag makes it easier to rinse and drain lots at once.
- Check regularly and remove any cracked or dented balls.

5. The foam itself
The high-density foam inside should rarely need cleaning. If liquid gets through, remove the cover, blot the foam, then let it air dry fully in a well-ventilated room before refitting. Never put foam blocks in the washing machine.
A simple cleaning routine
- Daily (nurseries and childminders): wipe high-touch surfaces and check for damage.
- Weekly: vacuum textured fabrics and spot clean marks.
- Monthly or as needed: machine wash covers and wash ball pit balls.

When to replace parts
Check zips, seams and foam shape regularly. A torn cover or crumbling foam should be taken out of use. Read our soft play safety guide for what to look for.
